Pedal for Prostates – 50km fun bike ride
Details
Please join us on a casual bike ride through the spectacular Tweed countryside. It’s a scenic ride passing through a huge variety of landscapes along the award winning Northern Rivers Rail Trail. You’ll start in the quaint village of Burringbar and follow the route of the disused railway line north for just over 20km to the town of Murwillumbah, nestled in the Tweed Valley next to Mount Warning/Wollumbin. After exploring the myriad of small shops in Murwillumbah’s main street you’ll head back the way you came, passing Burringbar and continuing on through Mooball to Crabbes Creek at the southern end of the trail. After a rest there you can return to Mooball or Burringbar for something to eat and drink. And because it’s an old railway line there are no hills!
Have a day out in the country. Take your time and take the kids. Stop along the way at one of the many eateries on the trail for a relaxing brunch, coffee, lunch, artisan ice cream or mouth-watering cakes. Enjoy hand made cheeses and other local produce along with the views. There are cafes, restaurants, the amazing Margaret Olley art gallery, iconic pubs and roadhouses and soooo much great scenery.
Why? Well apart from having a great day you’ll be helping to raise funds for prostate cancer research.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in Australia.
More than 28,000 Australian men were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2025.
1 in 5 of Australian men are at risk of being diagnosed in their lifetime and men living in regional or rural areas of Australia have approximately 24% higher rate of dying from prostate cancer than their urban counterparts.
The Lions Club of Cabarita Beach and Pottsville Beach is raising funds for prostate cancer research, while increasing awareness of the disease.
Mark Jensen, Life Force Program Manager from the Prostate Cancer Foundation, will be making short presentations about the disease, its detection, diagnosis and treatment between 11am and 3pm at the start/finish in Burringbar. He will also be happy to answer any questions you may have about prostate cancer.
