Jazz at The ’47 Club invites you to step back into the golden glow of early jazz for a special night of live music, featuring Melbourne jazz singer and multi-instrumentalist Susy Hull with her band, The Shy Guys.

For many in the Northern Rivers, this will be a first chance to hear Susy live, but she arrives with a strong reputation on the Melbourne jazz scene. Susy has performed at renowned venues including Paris Cat Jazz Club, where her “Susy Hull Sings Gershwin” show celebrated the music of George and Ira Gershwin and showcased her talents not only as a vocalist, but also as a multi-instrumentalist on saxophone, flute, piano and washboard. The show sold out on its first outing at Paris Cat and has gone on to be booked for other jazz audiences, including Ballarat Jazz Club and the Eltham Jazz Food and Wine Festival.

For this special Murwillumbah performance, Susy turns her attention to an early jazz repertoire rooted in the traditional sounds of New Orleans, music full of swing, character, humour and heart. Expect a night of timeless songs and warm, expressive musicianship, drawing from the spirit of the jazz era when the music was raw, joyful and made for connection.

Joining Susy and The Shy Guys will be local favourite, Mary Max with The Jazz Trades Collective, offering a beautiful contrast in mood and style. Mary Max brings a sweeter, more sentimental sound — elegant, melodic and full of old-world charm. Their repertoire evokes the jazz standards and dance hall spirit of the 1920s, 30s and 40s, adding a warm local voice to a night celebrating the many colours of early jazz. Featuring the formidable band, The Jazz Trades Collective, tonight featuring Dan Holland (piano), Hans Lovejoy (bass) and Michael Di Cecco (drums).
