This Tweed Heads Cafe Brings Filipino Flair to The Tweed

10 February, 2026

Set alongside the calm, clear waters of the Tweed River, Dayo Cafe brings a fresh twist to the Tweed Heads cafe scene. ‘Dayo’, meaning ‘visitor’ in Filipino, offers a bright, welcoming space where locals and visitors alike can discover Filipino flavours, often for the first time. Since opening in 2025, Dayo Cafe has quickly become a favourite Tweed Heads cafe and is a must stop to add to your holiday itinerary when exploring The Tweed.

A Seasonal Menu of Filipino Favourites

When chef and co-owner Kris opened Dayo, her aim was to bring a taste of home, the Philippines, to Tweed Heads. The menu changes seasonally, blending traditional Filipino dishes with unique twists on brunch favourites to showcase fresh flavours.

Year round you can sip bright, colourful drinks from hot ube lattes to iced mango matcha. Ube, a purple sweet potato commonly used in Filipino desserts, creates vibrant purple lattes that taste as good as they look, served hot or cold. On hot summer days the matcha yuzu ade or the ube matcha cloud are perfect refreshers. Need a caffeine hit? The cafe serves locally roasted Ground Control coffee expertly brewed by the barista team.

The all-day breakfast menu offers a unique taste of the Philippines. The spicy longganisa scrambled eggs are a crowd favourite, fluffy eggs topped with Filipino sausage, grana padano, chives and chilli oil on toasted sourdough. Another must try is the silog, a classic Filipino breakfast of garlic rice, fried egg and seasoned meat that changes monthly.

For something quick the breaky roll menu has you covered. Grab a homemade English muffin with a longganisa patty, souffle egg, cheddar, pickles and aioli, or try the beef caldereta breakfast wrap with slow braised Filipino beef, cheesy scrambled eggs, tater tots, chives and pickles.

From 8am the brunch menu is also available. Favourites include beef omurice, k pop chicken waffles and the Dayo double cheeseburger. For a sweet finish, the French toast is a must. Right now (March 2026) it is tiramisu flavoured with chocolate custard, brownie, mascarpone and coffee sauce, but flavours rotate seasonally so get in quick!

A Unique Tweed Heads Cafe That Feels Like Home

Beyond the menu, owners Kris and Johnny designed Dayo Cafe to capture the warmth and colour of home. Hand painted murals brighten the modern sunlit space, while large windows and the deck overlooking the Tweed River create a relaxed, easy going coastal atmosphere. Whether you are lingering over brunch or pausing for a ube latte, it is a welcoming spot that invites locals and visitors alike to slow down, soak up the vibrant atmosphere and enjoy a moment to yourself.
