The Tweed is known for its world-class waves and surf reserve beaches, home to Surfing Australia’s High Performance Centre, training Australia’s pros. Grab your boards (or hire them from our friends at Hirehood) and hit the waves at Cabarita Beach or Fingal Head Beach. For beginners and a fun group activity, book a surf lesson with Salty Girls Surf School, a female-owned and run business showing girls and women how to own the waves.

Winter in The Tweed means humpback whales can be spotted meandering up and down our beautiful coastline. While you’re sure to spy passing whales from lookouts like Norries Headland and Hastings Point Lookout, get up close and personal with them on a whale watching cruise. Several whale watching tours depart from The Tweed throughout the season, June – October, with many guaranteed whale sightings. For a truly memorable experience to share with friends, book a swim with whales’ experience with Cooly Eco Adventures and join these gentle giants in the ocean.
